January 2015 marks a new chapter for the Rare Disease Foundation with the hiring of our inaugural Executive Director, David Cox. David’s addition will allow the Rare Disease Foundation to forge ahead with new projects in line with our strategic vision, building on the amazing work already being done by the dynamic team of volunteers we have across the country.
The Rare Disease Foundation is very excited to announce that David Cox is joining our team as our inaugural Executive Director, effective January 5, 2015.
David is a CPA, CGA, MBA and came to us via the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN) where he was Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the national $22M non-profit organization, known as a global leader in the field of HIV and related co-infection clinical trials. Previous to that he had been the financial and operational leader of three organizations since 2006: a medical device company (www.velsope.com), the CTN (www.hivnet.ubc.ca), and a medicinal cannabis clinic (www.mcrci.com).
Beginning in 2006, as President and COO of LED Medical Diagnostics Inc., David led the commercial production and sales introduction of VELscope® and oversaw its rapid distribution expansion to more than 40 countries. In 2008, he and his team were recognized with a Red Herring Top 50 Canada award, celebrating the most innovative and promising companies in Canada.
David has a keen sense of social responsibility and is a former Director and Marketing Committee Chair with the Community Foundation of Kingston (Ontario). He currently volunteers his time as President of his BCS 4052 strata, as a member of the Business Advisory Council to the Canadian Junior Football League (www.cjfl.org) and with Operation Rainbow Canada (www.operationrainbowcanada.com).
David is keen to take on new challenges as he will be immediately taking the reigns as Chair for Rare Finds 2015 where he will continue to work with the exceptional team of volunteers already involved in our Gala comittee. He will be getting to know the organization and our amaziing team of volunteers and community based initiatives as he learns about all we do across the country.
