Parent 2 Parent Resource Networks Launching in Alberta and Newfoundland.
Our network for connecting families at a local level is growing. Thanks to dedicated parents and committed health care volunteers, we are excited to announce the launch this month of two new Parent 2 Parent Resource Networks; one in Calgary, Alberta and one in St. John’s Newfoundland.
Collaboration between a parent facilitator and dedicated health care volunteer helps us to manage and grow our Parent 2 Parent Resource Networks, creating a space for families united in their rare disease journeys. Once given a space to come together, so many common themes emerge in navigating local health care, school and social systems emerge. Greater themes of dealing with the world of rare and living in a family that, previously, couldn’t find it’s place or others to talk to.
I know this, because until I found my own people at the Vancouver Parent 2 Parent Resource Network I didn’t know that it was possible to have so much in common with a group of people who’s children had diagnoses completely different from that of my own child. But our paths all intersected. There was so much power in that.
This is why I am beyond excited whenever we start a new Parent 2 Parent Resource Network. I think of me before I found others to connect with, before I found others who understood our challenges, without me needing to explain. I’m grateful to our volunteers who made this happen and I’m happy for what they are about to begin.
Please, join me in helping to spread the word. Let’s let everyone know so that they can find their community. And welcome Calgary and St. John’s. It’s wonderful to have you be part of this community.
The first St. John’s meeting is on September 17th.
The first Calgary meeting is on September 24th.
