Our annual fundraising and awareness building Vancouver Gala a month ago. Bringing together our rare disease community, our supporters and our friends resulted in a fun night that will let us continue our work across the country. Many thanks to all those that donated, attended, volunteered and contributed!
The evening of April 23rd 2016 brought us the most recent Rare Finds event. Our Vancouver organizers and almost 70 volunteers welcomed 282 guests to make it our best-ever event. With contributions from three craft breweries, four cocktail mixologists, 14 chefs in savoury, sweet, and vegetarian categories, our guests had no lack of tasty treats to tempt their palates.
The evening’s entertainment began with the Discovery Channel’s Adam Growe of Cash Cab fame and continued with beautiful violin music provided by young musician Cameron Andres. Later in the evening internationally renowned magician and Charlie Chaplin impersonator, Paul Romhany closed out the entertainment portion of the evening to rousing applause.
We’re grateful to Coleen Christie of CTV for her gracious MC’ing duties and to our auctioneer, Jeff Schwartz (from Outdoor Life Network’s The Liquidator).
All in all, our community raised an amazing $110,000! A call for Microgrant proposals was concluded just after the Rare Finds 2016 and funds raised immediately went to support 12 of the 29 grants awarded in the May research competition!
Many thanks to all who attended and contributed!
